Power Outage in South Africa’s Capital City Pretoria East after Collapse of Powerlines on N4 East Highway
PRETORIA, Pretoria East has been hit by a power outage following the collapse of at least six powerlines on the N4 East Highway between the Solomon Mahlangu and Simon Vermooten off-ramps on Sunday night. The City of Tshwane has reported that the outage has affected several areas including Mamelodi, Waltloo, Silverton, Silver Lakes, Faerie Glen, Equestria, Mooikloof, Doornpoort, Waterval, Grootvlei East, Grootvlei West, Bultfontein, Rooiwal, Vastfontein extension, Lyttleton, Die Hoewes, and a portion of Moreletapark.
The city has deployed a team to assess the damage caused by the collapse, and to plot the way forward in terms of repairs. However, rainy weather has been predicted to delay repair works. The freeway between the Solomon Mahlangu and Simon Vermooten off-ramps has been closed to traffic.
Selby Bokaba, spokesperson for the City of Tshwane, has assured residents that the city is working to restore power and is providing updates on when the freeway will be reopened. However, no timeframe has been given for when residents can expect power to be restored.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to exercise caution and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities. Businesses in the area have also been impacted by the outage, with some forced to close until power is restored.

This incident highlights the importance of regular maintenance of power infrastructure, particularly during adverse weather conditions. The City of Tshwane has urged residents to remain patient while the repairs are being carried out, and to conserve energy in the meantime.
