Mashaba welcomes the proposal put forth by John Steenhuisen, the newly re-elected leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA), to form a coalition with other opposition parties ahead of 2024 South African General Elections

JOHANNESBURG | In a recent turn of events, Herman Mashaba, the leader of the political party ActionSA, has welcomed the proposal put forth by John Steenhuisen, the newly re-elected leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA), to form a coalition with other opposition parties in South Africa.

Steenhuisen had announced a pre-election ‘moonshot pact’ that aims to unite the efforts of opposition parties to unseat the ruling African National Congress (ANC) from power in the upcoming 2024 national elections. In response, Mashaba expressed his full commitment to a multi-party government that would work together to remove the ANC from power.

Mashaba stressed the importance of all partners committing upfront not to entertain any coalition with the ANC in any form. He believes that such a commitment is necessary to ensure that the ANC is completely removed from power and that the country can move forward towards a better future.

This move comes just five days after Mashaba had expressed his concern about the possibility of the ANC forming a coalition with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) for the 2024 elections. In a tweet, he warned that such a coalition would lead to the collapse of South Africa and compared it to Zimbabwe.

Mashaba stated that ActionSA is determined to work even harder to avoid the collapse of the country and to prevent the ANC from staying in power. He also urged the people of South Africa to wake up and take notice of the situation.

With Mashaba’s support for the proposed coalition, it remains to be seen which other opposition parties will join in this effort. However, it is clear that the opposition parties are willing to work together to create a better future for South Africans
